During half time, Philadelphia hosted the MLL Bud
Light Skills Competition. There was a Fastest Shot Contest, an Accuracy
contest, and a Bull’s Eye contest. David Evans of the Boston Cannons
won the fastest shot for the third year in a row with a speed of 109 MPH.
Colsey of Philadelphia came close with fast 106 MPH.
Next was the accuracy contest. This contest is run with two players
from each team who feed each other the ball and attempt to hit the targeted
corners of the net. Philadelphia’s contestants were Matt Striebel and BJ
Prager. Team New Jersey, Scott Urick and David Curry, took home the prize
though, with 6 goals.
The Freestyle shot was the next competition. Each player got two attempts
to please the crowd, with the winner being determined by the crowd’s applause.
The Barrage’s Matt Striebel was this year’s winner, with an awesome
crease dive and a through the legs fake and a shot. His outstanding goals
were applauded with over whelming cheers, making him the automatic winner!

The score after half time was 11-9, Long Island. Colsey opened up firing
a two-point goal behind the Lizards Brian
Dougherty, just 31 seconds into the quarter. Miller scored his 100th
career point with a flying bounce shot past Long Island’s netminder. Steve
Sombrotto scored his lone goal of the night with an assist from Kevin Lowe,
his fourth of the game. Chris Massey scored the last goal of the quarter
on a buzzer beater, tying the score, 14-14.
Mike Mollot registered his second goal of the night, and the Barrage’s
first of the last stanza. Massey recorded his third goal of the night at
8:02. Cromwell scored his 6th point of the game with an assist from Striebel,
again tying the score 17-17. After a series of beautiful passes by Philadelphia,
Prager notched a behind the back shot with an assist from Boyle, giving
Philadelphia the final lead of the game. Cromwell earned tonight’s Bud
Light MVP award with 7 points (3g, 4a).
The Philadelphia Barrage advance to a record of 3-6, while the Long Island
Lizards fall 4-3. The Barrage will be playing the Boston Cannons at Boston
next Thursday, July 22.
